The act of censorship, or "the control of information and ideas circulated within a society," has been going on for centuries. The first documented sources began in ancient Greek and Roman times, and it has been occurring ever since. As time progresses, some countries, like the United States, have made laws that make government censorship illegal, but other countries and organizations have used it to its fullest, malicious extent. These include the following: The Roman Catholic Church, The Stalin Regime, Nazi Germany, Armed Islamic Group, China, individuals in America trying to ban/challenge books, etc. With the internet becoming an integral part of our society, there are also many debates on how it should be censored as well. The implications of censorship are vast, and books like Fahrenheit 451 warn us against the dangers of a censored society.
